Community Tourism at Rio Blanco

 3 Nights, 4 Days

Day 1: Leave from Misahualli in motorized canoe to Misicocha. From there hike along the community trail for two hours to the community of Rio Blanco (white river). Once there, settle into your rooms, have lunch and rest. In the afternoon visit a beautiful botanic garden and see a demonstration of traditional medicinal, ornamental and hallucinogenic plants and their uses. Hunting and fishing trap demonstrations will also take place as well as an opportunity to practice your blowpipe skills! Have dinner and a welcome cocktail. Later hear old tales and legends.

Day 2: Have breakfast then a two hour morning hike through the jungle will take you to the Huambuno River waterfall. Swim in the natural pool then row down the river in a canoe for about thirty minutes to the cabins where you will have lunch and rest for a while. There will be an afternoon demonstration of how to make the Chicha de Yuca, a traditional Kichwa drink, followed by chocolate making. The evening is host to dinner and a night of integration with the community including traditional music all in the Kichwa language and finally the ritual of the shaman.

Day 3: Have breakfast followed by a two hour jungle walk where the flora and fauna will be explained. Enjoy a mud bath which is great for curing skin problems, hair loss and athletes foot. Return for lunch. In the afternoon visit the community of Rio Blanco to see the community`s children and hand out presents. They will explain the future of the community and it`s customs and way of life in the jungle. Return for dinner before an optional night hike.

Day 4: Have breakfast before packing up and heading to the Napo River, another motorized canoe trip to the Amazoonico animal rescue center. Visit the house of balsa handicrafts and ceramics. Have lunch in Ahuano in the afternoon, and finally return to Misahualli to end the tour.

 

Descriptions of the rooms: Rooms have a rustic feel and are situated on the banks of Rio Blanco. Rooms with two, three, and four beds are available with shared bathrooms and showers. There is a restaurant and a beach, the hotel is run on an electric generator.

Included in the price: Lodging, food, bottled water, all transport, life jackets, rubber boots, raincoats, park entrance fees and certified guide.

Not included in the price: Transport to and from Misahualli nor dinner on the last day. You will also have to pay for hallucinogenic plants, soft drinks, alcoholic beverages and taxes.
